Corry Charities Celebrate Historic Erie Gives results

June 19, 2023

The Corry Community Foundation hosted an Erie Gives wrap-up event on Sept. 16 in Corry City Park, at which numerous local nonprofits celebrated nearly half a million dollars being being distributed among them.

Giving remarks at the event were Annie Maloney of the Foundation for Sustainable Forests, Charles Gray of Impact Corry and Ed O’Brien of the Corry YMCA. Erie Community Foundation’s Erin Fessler spoke as well.

“Shelby Scouten and the Corry Community Foundation board of trustees worked hard to encourage the community to support local nonprofits,” Fessler said in an interview following the event. “The Corry Community Foundation board voted to add an extra $20,000 prorated match to Corry nonprofits, and every dollar added up. What was very exciting is that the Corry YMCA received the largest single gift of $300K from an anonymous donor this year, and, what’s more exciting, is that it's the largest in Erie Gives history.”

CCF’s match pool this year was $20,000, which was divided among the above-listed nonprofits based on the amount of donations each organization received. However, the match only applied to the first $5,000 raised by any charity. Up to that amount, Scouten said the CCF match was about 37 cents on the dollar. In addition to, and separate from, the local match pool is a countywide, $470,000 pool funded by ECF and a group of other sponsors, which are listed on the Erie Gives website. This is also a prorated match, so it is based on the amount given to each charity. ECF match numbers are not included in the above results. Apart from this year, the largest amount raised for Corry charities since 2014 was $285,605 in 2019, according to data provided by Scouten. “Erie Gives was an unprecedented success for Corry this year,” Scouten said. “From Impact Corry's doubling donors and donations, to the YMCA’s ranking number one out of 467 organizations. The YMCA really put us over the top with the single highest donation in 12 years of Erie Gives. “It is so good for all of Corry’s organizations to have one of their peers in the top spot and bringing positive attention to our city. We are so grateful to the Erie Community Foundation for hosting this annual event, and to the sponsors who contributed to both the prorated match and hourly incentives. The impact of nearly $500,000 coming into Corry is invaluable. We look forward to another successful Erie Gives campaign for all of our nonprofits next year.”
